Josiah has 12 years of guitar experience that he is bringing to Swing City. After playing in a rock group that played all over the United Kingdom, Josiah decided to move to Illinois to pursue a bachelor’s degree in jazz guitar, at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
When music programs began to dwindle, Josiah knew it was important to bring his knowledge to students. Considering music is often looked in modern times, Josiah brings a rich history of knowledge to every individual. Josiah has been teaching professionally since 2010 and is now forming a student band where he will teach students the value of performing as a group. He is excited to give opportunities to students that will enrich their lives for years to come.
“I encourage students to play material that they are interested in because music lessons should not be math class. However, all students are challenged with ear training, music theory, fret board knowledge and usually some basic reading skills.” -Josiah Joyce
If you would like to catch performances from Josiah, he can be seen around St. Louis performing with “Early Worm” and “Al Holliday and the East Side Rhythm Band”.
